Repairing Webbed Feet On A Waterfowl

Waterfowl feet and legs are often damaged due to shot or some previous injury.

Although it is harder to control the shrinkage on a damaged foot or leg, it is possible to do repairs on them.

For those repairs, use a clear acrylic, silicone caulk. It goes on white in color and air dries to clear.

For large areas, such as the webbing of the foot, use a combination of caulk and cheesecloth.

First, cut a section of cheesecloth large enough to cover the missing web.

Here is an example of how the cheesecloth should fit the web.

Next, squirt out some caulk on a piece of paper.

The cheesecloth is then wet with caulk and fitted into the missing web section.

The caulk is naturally sticky and can be worked around with a modeling tool.

Any additional caulking that is needed is applied with a wet paintbrush and then brushed out smooth.

When the caulk dries clear, it can be painted to match the foot.
