How To Install A Septum

Step 1: First draw a line on either side of the nose to help line up the cuts when reattaching the nose. Then cut the nose off about an inch behind the nostrils, cut a wedge on the bottom of the chin, this will also aide in alignment later.

Step 2: Next draw a line around the back of the septum where it will be inserted from the back. Grind or carve out the foam where the septum will be, using reference material as a guide to line up the details of the septum.

Remember the top of the septum is part of the cartilage on the bridge of the nose and the bottom is the top of the pallet inside the mouth.

Step 3: Remember the top of the septum is part of the cartilage on the bridge of the nose and the bottom is the top of the pallet inside the mouth.

After the septum is fitting properly, secure it inside the nose with sculpall type or body filler (Bondo replacement). Then you will need to carve out the part in the form where the excess on back of the septum goes into the form.

When this fits, bondo the nose back in place using the guidelines made before cutting the nose off. When the body filler has set some, but is still warm and somewhat soft, remove the excess and cut in your lip slots, this is much easier before the filler has completely set hard.
