How to Replicate a Missing Hoof Instructions:

Using Sil-Putty, mix equal amounts of A and B. The hoof should be clean and dry. Sil-Putty doesn't like water or cold. Make a ball of each A and B and mix together. Mix, twist and fold material for two to three minutes. Mix until color is consistent. Before applying to part, work air out of Sil-Putty. Roll in ball really tight to ensure no air. Find part (hoof) pack in Sil-Putty so it doesn't form air bubbles. Make about 1/4" thick. Sil-Putty will cure to a firm rubber like consistency in just minutes at room temperature.

Loosen all edges and gently slide off hoof. You may need to twist a little. You can use any type of casting material in these molds such as Smooth-Cast 300, Fantastic Cast and Fiberglass resin mixed with a little Bondo.

You are ready to make a replica hoof.

You should always wear safety glasses. Get you supplies together: gloves, tongue depressors, and mixing container. Rubber mixing bowls are good for this and are reusable.

Get Smooth-Cast 300 in equal proportions by weight or measurements. Pour 2 parts together. Mix with tongue depressor or paint mixer for bigger quantities. Pour into molds. It will start to cure in a couple of minutes. Let set for 15 minutes in the molds. Then, loosen edges very gently so that you don't damage the mold. You may need to insert a screw so you have something to pull on when taking piece out of mold. Parts can be wiped down with acetone. Pieces can be painted, drilled, stained, etc. Items that are to be finished should be rubbed with steel wool first.
