Using WASCO True Tan™

True Tan™ System is a professional bird tan. This tanning agent ensures the skin is permanently stabilized which reduces the possibility of shifting feathers.

Directions:

For best results, follow the directions exactly as they are state. This chemical should be used in conjunction with the other products and procedures in the True-Tan™ system.

  1. After skinning, remove all meat and fat using scissors and a de-fatting machine with a wire wheel brush. Coll the skin in an icy cold water "often" to prevent bacteria from growing when using the wire wheel.

  2. Soak the skin in Polytranspar™ Degreaser according to directions to remove surface fats and oils.

  3. Allow to drain, and rinse in cold water. Next, prepare a solution of one fluid ounce of True-Tan™ Skin Prep, one fluid ounce of Bollmann's Bacteriacide and one fluid ounce of McKenzie Relaxer / Degreaser per gallon of water. Wash the skin thoroughly and allow to soak in this solution for 30 minutes, moving the skin occasionally. (The McKenzie Relaxer / Degreaser will remove inner concentrations of fat).

  4. Rinse in cold water. "Gently squeeze and drain the skin.

  5. Prepare a solution of four parts True-Tan™ Bird Tan, four parts water and one part white vinegar. Stir thoroughly. Submerge the bird skin and allow to soak for one to two hours. (Do not crowd the skins - move about the solution occasionally making sure that all parts of the skin are exposed to the solution).

Note:This solution may be used for several bird skins; however,it should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent the chemicals from evaporating. (The evaporation of chemicals will render it useless). Bacteria can acclimate itself to most any environment over a period of time. Repeated and prolonged use can eventually result in bacteria growth. It is suggested that the concentrated Lysol disinfectant be added to the solution periodically and that the solution should be changed altogether if the presence of bacteria is detected or suspected. For best results, use fresh solutions.

  6. Remove the skin from the tanning solution and tumble in corn cob grit.
