Randy Nelson's Quick-Rock by McKenzie Supply Instructions

Quik-Rock Creative Process:

You can cut the Randy Nelson Quik-Rock casting into sections using a reciprocating saw or knife. Once the foam rock has been cut into multiple pieces, they may now be screwed back together at any angle. This enables you to create any form of rocky ledge or valley of your choice. This process is easily produced multiple times to create the form of your choice. At this point you have already eliminated the use of other products such as wire, plaster or concrete. Randy Nelson's Quik-Rock is considered one of the best forms of stability. This new form will allow you to even walk on it.

The next step consists of seaming multiple crevices and gaps together to remold the cuts. Filling these gaps takes time, however, with rosin paper and newspaper any gap small or large can be seamed back together. Some of the larger gaps may even be more effectively filled with smaller portions of Randy Nelson's Quik-Rock. By screwing on smaller pieces you will cover up any exposed seams in the process. Randy Nelson’s Quik-Rock may be manipulated in several ways through these small pieces to reduce the seaming process.

Fill in around the pieces of rock with a seaming compound. Many materials can be used however we have found drywall patch in various set times to be the best. Mix the compound with blown insulation to fill any seams still needing to be patched. This mixture consists of 1 part drywall patch to one part blown insulation. This creates a thick textured mix. Make sure you cover any screw holes as well as any large holes missed. A textured silicone pad can be used to create a pattern resembling the surrounding service. Drying time for this process is 24 hours. Once the surface is dry you need to apply a polyurethane sealer over the entire piece at least two times. If Randy Nelson's Quik-Rock is to be used outdoors you will need to water-proof the piece with a sealer for external use.

Final step in the installation process is painting. Randy Nelson's Quik-Rock has a solid gray base produced straight from the mold. We have found that this gray is ideal for rock coloring. Quik-Rock has a paintable surface so that you may customize Randy Nelson's Quik-Rock to whatever color you would like. Several paints stick to this rock including Tempera paints, acrylics, or latex.
