McKenzie Tan Tanning Kit Instructions
The McKenzie Tan Tanning Kit contains 8 ounces of McKenzie Tan and 8 ounces of McKenzie Ultimate Acid and instructions for wet-tanning a cape for mounting purposes. The only other items needed to tan with this kit are non-iodized salt and baking soda, both of which can be found at any grocery store. The kit contains enough tan and acid to tan two average size Whitetail capes.

1. After skinning, salt the hide as soon as possible to inhibit the growth of bacteria.

2. Create a pickle solution with water, salt and McKenzie Ultimate Acid.
|

3. Maintain a pH of 1.0-2.0 at all times. pH paper is designed to give accurate readings.

4. Once pickled for 3 days, remove drain and shave the skin.
|
|
 |
5. After the skin has been neutralized and damp dried, it is ready for the McKenzie Tan.

6. Brush the McKenzie Tan over the entire flesh side of the skin. Then roll it up and set it aside for 4 to 5 hours so the tan can penetrate.

7. Wash the skin in cold water then dry it in a towel to remove the excess moisture.
|
|
 |
8. The skin is now tanned and ready for immediate mounting, bagging or freezing for later use.
