Using the Jonas Fleshing System
Important Prep Before You Begin.
Measure approximately 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" from each corner of the base and drill a 3/16" hole in each corner. The opening in the base may face toward you or away from you, depending on your personal preference. Secure the base to your bench using 2" drywall screws.
Caution: Hand tighten only - over tightening may result in cracking the base.
The ear wire can be bent closed by using a pair of vise grips or pliers. Close the wire unitl it forms a point. This makes it easier to get into the very tips of the ears and also makes the wire more rigid.
Sanding the parts accomplishes two things. First, seams or other imperfections need to be smooth. Any high spots will cause the skive knife to catch and cut a hole in your skin. Second, sanding the parts enables the component to grip the skin better than if the component remains "slick". Use 60 grit sandpaper, and hand sand lightly. An electric sander may be used, but be careful not to get " peaks and valleys" in your component.
Note: Always be safe. Work in a well ventilated area and wear safety glasses.
