Using Hide Relax

Hide Relax was developed for the home tans and pickle bath tans, like Alum Tan. However, some commercially tanned hides will have a negative reaction to water, therefore we recommend you try a small part on the lower end of the hide first before putting the entire hide into the Hide Relaxing solution. Most tans shrink and pucker hides to a certain degree. Hide Relax not only will relax the skin to its original size, but it also mothproofs and cleans the hide as well. Hide Relax is a product to aid only in softening dry salted hides prior to tanning and tanned hides prior to mounting.

Note: Hide Relax will not break tanned hides.

Mixing Instructions:

For every gallon of lukewarm water, add 2 to 3 ounces of Hide Relax. Next, place the skin in the solution and agitate and stretch the skin for 5 to 20 minutes. After relaxing the skin, rinse the Hide Relax out of the skin and hair thoroughly with lukewarm or cold water. Remember, the shorter time in the Hide Relax, the better. Tanned skins can slip hair as easy as raw skins when subjected to high pH and detergents. We highly suggest the use of Van-Wet 9N9 (a cold water wetting agent) for relaxing salt dried skins.

Keep out of reach of children
