Using Fur Brightener

Fur Brightener enhances the quality of hair by adding a lustrous shine to it. It should be added to the tanning mixture only. It can not be used alone!

Maximum usage amount of Fur Brightener is 1/2 ounce per pound of skin.

Simply add 1/2 ounce of liquid Fur Brightener for every pound of skin being tanned in a chrome (Tannium) or Alum (Ammonium Alum), (Aluminum Sulfate) or (Lutan FN®) mixture.

Pelt Weights:

Fox hide: Approximately 4 ounces per pelt

Rabbit hide: Approximately 2 ounces per pelt

Beaver hide: Approximately 4 to 6 ounces depending on the size

Coyote hide: Approximately 4 to 6 ounces depending on the size

When skins are tanned, oil skins and tumble in hardwood sawdust or corn cob grit. Break skins by teasing (stretching and flexing skin) and rubbing across a breaking tool or the edge of a table.
