Tanning Oil Tip

The use of good tanning oil is necessary if soft and supple leather is desired. Oiling replaces the globular protein that was removed during the pickling process. If the natural oils are not replaced, the leather will shrink and stiffen. A quality oil will fill the voids left by attaching to the structural fiber of the skin. The use of inferior oil will result in a stiff piece of leather.

Van Dyke's Taxidermy offers quality tanning oils.
