Using Lactic Acid


Mix 2 ounces of Lactic Acid to 10 gallons of soft water. Place washed, de-haired hides in this solution and leave in for approximately 24 to 48 hours, depending on how many times you stir it. If you stir quite frequently it takes fewer hours. After this time period take the hide out and wash it several times in 75 to 80 degree water. Now the hide is ready to tan.

Caution: Harmful if swallowed

Antidote: If swallowed, give large quantities of water or milk. Follow with beaten egg, vegetable oil or milk of magnesia and call physician immediately. Avoid contact with skin or eyes as it may cause burns. If skin is contacted, wash with water for 15 minutes. If contacted with eyes, wash with water and get medical attention.
