When a skull is boiled to remove the horns, the horns often become greasy. This is especially true with light colored horns such as Sheep and Ibex. The grease is usually at the base of the horns where they were submerged during boiling.

To remove the grease from the horns, simply soak the base of the horns in lacquer thinner overnight.

After soaking, allow the horns to dry, then wash the base of the horns with Dawn detergent or McKenzie Relaxer / Degreaserand water using a brush.

Once dry, the horns should have a lighter, more natural color and are ready to be reattached to the cores.
