Staining and Finishing Repaired Antlers

This is part 3 of the Antler Repair series, we hope that you have enjoyed and found this series very informative and helpful. To view the first in series, Antler Tine Rebuilding or the second, Antler Tine Replicating.

The hardest part of antler repair is most often the staining or painting of the repair so it does not appear repaired. This too, is now much easier with the Brush-On-Wipe-Off Antler Paints. By using the different colors you can achieve fantastic results! The main thing to remember is to prime the area first with a white primer. Then, using an artist brush apply the antler paint to the area. The Raw Umber color will work on most antlers but to get an exact match you may add the Clay Red,Golden Camel or Black. Just keep applying the paints by brushing on and wiping off until you get a perfect match.

Now that you know how to rebuild, replicate and finish repaired antlers, we’ll review our recommended products. For all your antler tine repair and building we recommend the following products: Fixit Paste, 10-gauge wire, 5 minute epoxy, Silputty, Smooth-Cast and Bondo.
