How to Use a Convertible Reproduction Skull

Step By Step Instructions For Using A Convertible Reproduction Skull
By Pinchback Reproductions

Convertible Reproduction Skull
  1. Trim the skullcap area of the antlers to fit the opening on the Convertible Reproduction skull.
  2. Drill two pilot holes through the skullcap that will align with the wooden block in the Convertible Reproduction skull. Drill these holes so that you can countersink your screws into the skullcap area.
  3. Rough up the open part of the Convertible Reproduction skull with a rasp or dremel tool for better adhesion. Mix Bondo and hardener with a fiber like filler and apply this to the open part of the Convertible Reproduction skull.
  4. Position the skullcap and antlers over the bondo and attach with two drywall screws, making sure that the screws reach the wooden block for better anchoring. You may choose to use larger screws or bolts depending on the size of your antlers. Allow the bondo time to cure before moving to the next step.
  5. Using Apoxie Sculpt, fill in the areas between the real skullcap and the Convertible Reproduction skull. Have the apoxy fill in the void areas of the transition points. Work on smoothing the alignment areas to give the skull and antlers a connected look.
  6. After the two parts are blended; use a damp cloth to create textured bone look in the apoxy. Lightly press this damp cloth into the apoxy to achieve this effect.
  7. Using a needle or pen, you can add the additional texture and bone cracks to the skull.
  8. Let this harden and cure, then use steel wool to lightly blend any areas that need attention.
  9. Paint the apoxy area and reproduction skull with bone finish paint, use Natures Gallery Cover White.
